3. Renewable Gases

We invite papers and posters on the production of renewable gases (biogas, biomethane and synthetic natural gas), as well as on their impacts on Gas infrastructure and end-use systems. Submissions should highlight technological advances in renewable gas production, grid integration, system compatibility and market or operational solutions.

The Renewable Gases theme will bring together professionals involved in development and implementation of research, development, innovation and new technical solutions. We invite abstracts that address advancements, challenges and emerging opportunities in the following areas:

  • Renewable Gas Production:

Biological and chemical pathways for renewable methane; optimisation to increase CH₄/CO₂ yield; purification and methanation processes; and effective feedstock sourcing.

  • Certification of Renewable Gases:

GHG accounting and carbon intensity; tracking and transparency; standards and compliance.

  • Grid Integration & Blending:

Injection of renewable gases into the Gas grid; blending strategies; small-scale injection and local grid integration; and approaches to minimise technical and economic barriers.

  • Infrastructure Compatibility:

Assessment of PE/steel materials; elastomer compatibility; adaptation of meters, regulators, and distribution assets for biomethane or SNG blends.

  • End-Use Performance & Safety:

Equipment and appliance adaptation; burner tuning; certification; safety device functionality; and performance with renewable gas mixtures.

  • CO₂ Utilization & System Efficiency:

Use of biogenic CO₂ in renewable gas production pathways and methods to maximise resource efficiency.

  • Odorisation & Quality Management:

Odorant behaviour (e.g., THT); interactions with impurities; and ensuring quality control for renewable methane.
